Tom Cowan, P.E.Civil Engineer
Tom was born and raised in Whitefish, MT, graduating from Whitefish High School in 1967. Following graduate school in 1976, Tom went to work as a Sanitarian for the Flathead City-County Health Department, and became Director of the Sanitarians Office in 1979. In 1984, he left the County and started work at Carver Engineering, Inc. as an Engineer Technician. Under the supervision of Dennis Carver, Tom designed numerous water, sewer and stormwater drainage systems for individual clients, water & sewer districts and municipalities. To obtain his Profession Engineer’s License, Tom studied engineering text books in the evenings and on the weekends. He passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam in 1989 and then passed the Professional Engineering Exam in 1991.As a Professional Engineer Tom’s responsibilities have not changed although his involvement in projects is now more comprehensive. In addition to designing water, sewer, stormwater drainage, and roadway systems; writing design reports; and preparing plans and supplemental information for submittal to reviewing agencies, Tom manages projects from their inception, through construction, to final acceptance by the client and, where applicable, by the governing body.
Andy Hyde, P.E.Civil Engineer
Andy’s family moved to Missoula in 1968 when Andy was a sixth grader. He finished his grade school education at Saint Francis Xavier Elementary School and went on to graduate as valedictorian from Loyola Sacred Heart High School in 1974. He worked as a “soda jerk” at the Go West Drive-in and Roxy & Wilma Theaters in Missoula. He went to college and graduate school in the San Francisco Bay Area (Santa Clara University and Stanford University). His Missoula roots and out of state college experiences explain why a Montana raised engineer can be a Grizzly fan.Andy has worked for a small consulting civil engineering firm in Portland, Oregon and a public utility district in Truckee, California.All of Andy’s Montana work experience has been located in Kalispell. He worked as a Environmental Engineer for the Flathead County Sanitarians Office and was the Water & Wastewater Superintendent for the City of Kalispell, giving him broad exposure all across Flathead County and also focusing his attention to just within the Kalispell City limits. Andy began working at Carver Engineering May 1991.Andy is married to Jane Adams, who teaches yoga in the basement of the Carver Engineering building. Andy and Jane have one child, Molly, who is a fourth grader at Elrod Elementary School in Kalispell.
Andy enjoys hiking, camping, bike riding, skiing and music, and plays right field for the Ravens, the current reigning champions of the Flathead County senior softball league.
Tina MalkuchEng. Tech/CAD Specialist
Along with being co-owner of Carver Engineering, Tina is the owner and founder of Safewater Testing Simplified (STS), Inc., which she established in 1983. This business manages 24 private water systems around Flathead Valley including 12 rural schools. Tina perforsm Sanitary Surveys inspections of public water systems for the State of Montana as a subcontractor for the Flathead City/County Health Department.Tina is an owner, founder and manager of Healthy Visions, Inc., a 5500 square foot facility that was purchased and renovated. Numerous businesses, including STS, Inc. and the ISKF of Montana rent spaces there.Tina is Co-Owner and the teacher at the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) of Montana where she teaches traditional Shotokan Japanese Karate. ISKF is a world-wide organization. The ISKF of Montana is a not for profit business established in Kalispell in 1993. Tina holds a forth degree black belt, is one of a selected few who are allowed to be a part of the ISKF instructor trainee program and has a Judges “D” rating. ISKF of MT provides community services to organizations such as the homeschoolers organization, battered women organizations and troubled children’s programs.Tina and her husband, Steve, are Montana natives and have been married for 33 years. They have one son, Stephen. They built their home and have lived there for 30 years.
Kevin MalloyConstruction Mngr/Inspector
Kevin was born and raised in Missoula, MT and graduated from Big Sky High School in 1984. Following college, Kevin moved to Denver, CO, where for the next five years, worked for two geotechnical and materials testing laboratories, starting as an engineering technician and working his way up to a construction materials field manager position. Kevin gained valuable experience in Denver testing and inspecting concrete, soils, asphalt, reinforcing steel, structural steel, masonry, caissons and spread footings and worked on several noteworthy projects, Denver International Airport and Coors Field Baseball Stadium.
Kevin moved back to Montana in 1997 and started working for Carver Engineering. Kevin provides preliminary design and inspections of water and sewer systems, storm drainage and roadways. He designs and prepares plans for sediment and erosion control; prepares as-built drawings and writes applications for Federal, State, City and County permits. Kevin provides coordination between underground utility companies and contractors for installation of power, telephone, cable TV and natural gas. In summary, Kevin provides Carver Engineering clients the field engineering, construction management and inspection services necessary to provide for a smooth transition from project design to construction and ensure a quality project is achieved.
